DJI Osmo 360 Problems, Complaints & Common Issues: What Owners Say
Owner reports · Research checked 22 September 2026
Owners of the original DJI Osmo 360 report mobile and desktop editing trouble, recording interruptions, lens fog, stitching artifacts and black-screen problems. Below we separate recurring complaints from unproven diagnoses, and include follow-ups where owners found improvements. This article does not cover the Osmo 360 II.
Mimo export failures on Android
One owner using Osmo 360 footage on a Motorola Edge 60 reports exports that previously worked began failing, with the app unable to create the video. A separate owner using a Xiaomi 14 Ultra describes recurring crashes during Osmo 360 exports. Sources: Motorola export report and follow-up and Xiaomi export report.
The Motorola owner later reports that reverting from a newer app version to 2.9.5 restored exports. That is a reported workaround, not a verified current fix or a recommendation to install old packages from unofficial sources. The Xiaomi account has no visible final resolution. The reports support a recurring mobile-export complaint, but do not prove that both phones encountered the same bug or that the camera's original footage was damaged.
Missing or inconsistent 10-bit mobile export options
Two independent Osmo 360 owners describe mobile color-depth restrictions. One found no 10-bit export option on a Galaxy S23 Ultra when comparing the same clip with an iPhone 14. Another reported that 10-bit was available at 720p and 1080p but disappeared at 2.7K and 4K; that owner did not identify their phone or app version. Sources: phone comparison and subsequent update and resolution-dependent export report.
These are historical workflow complaints, not proof that current Android exports are universally limited to 8-bit. The Galaxy owner later said the 10-bit option had appeared, but had not yet tested its output. Another participant reported the option on a Xiaomi 14 with Mimo V2.6.12. The Galaxy owner also commented in the second thread: that duplicate account is not a third independent report. Check the export options for your actual footage, phone and app version before relying on a phone-only grading workflow.
Heat-related interruptions during recording
One owner reports an indoor recording stopping after about 40 minutes from overheating. Importantly, they corrected the original post: the setting was 8K30, not 8K60. A separate motorcycle user describes shutdowns while recording at 6K60, including in cool weather, and says the problem developed after an initially trouble-free period. Sources: indoor test and corrected recording mode and motorcycle recording report and follow-ups.
These are individual experiences, not a standard runtime specification. The first discussion also includes an owner explicitly reporting no overheating on their Osmo 360 at 8K30, and a cyclist reporting successful 8K50 sessions. Another participant describes a warning and the screen turning off while recording continued: that is not the same as a lost or interrupted recording. Ambient conditions, mounting, wireless use and firmware are not consistently documented.
DJI's official FAQ recommends reducing resolution or frame rate, switching off the screen and unused wireless functions, and maintaining ventilation to reduce overheating. Its battery-runtime test conditions are not a guarantee of uninterrupted recording in every installation or climate.
Lens fog during use
One new owner describes lens condensation after around 15 minutes of continuous recording. A separate Osmo 360 owner reports fog during intermittent motorcycle use in India at roughly 30°C, without a sudden ambient-temperature drop; it cleared after the camera was turned off. Sources: initial fog report and multiple updates and motorcycle-trip condensation report.
The first owner subsequently reported successful recording after trying a suggested drying procedure, and a later follow-up says the issue never returned. That outcome matters: the thread does not show an indefinitely unresolved fault. It does not establish that the same procedure will fix every camera, either. The second account gives no long-term resolution. These reports support describing owner-observed fog, not diagnosing a shared seal defect or claiming that every unit is affected.
DJI Studio crashes with desktop projects
A bikepacking owner reports Windows crashes while scrubbing, exporting and reopening a project containing many clips, keyframes and tracking effects. They clarify that small, simple projects worked. A second owner describes repeated Studio crashes on a powerful PC. Sources: project failures and follow-ups and another owner's desktop experience.
The second owner says disabling their integrated GPU stopped the crashes; the first says theirs was already disabled. That contrast rules out presenting the change as a universal fix. These reports concern editing stability, not proof of damaged original recordings. Neither provides a reproducible diagnosis covering every Windows system.
Visible seams and warped stitching
One owner reports persistent blur and poor stitching from a new Osmo 360, including while walking, without lens guards and with the guard setting off. Another owner in the same discussion describes warping that remained after changing settings and exporting again, and says they returned their camera. Sources: new-camera report and troubleshooting replies and independent warping report.
A separate owner describes a moving dark seam despite clean lenses, no guards and different stitching settings. Replies initially struggle to see it, then suggest camera orientation and normal stitching limitations as explanations. That disagreement matters: the seam discussion is not a confirmed lens-alignment diagnosis. Likewise, commenters' hardware explanations in the first thread are speculation, not service findings.
DJI's FAQ specifies a minimum stitching distance of 0.75 m. Near-subject stitching limitations should be distinguished from persistent artifacts in ordinary scenes. The reports do not establish one shared cause or a failure rate.
Black screen and frozen camera interface
One owner describes a black screen and a camera stuck in a shooting mode after exporting footage and updating firmware; a reset did not help. Another explicitly identifies an Osmo 360 with no live preview, an inaccessible gallery and a largely frozen interface, although a computer could still read its files. Sources: initial report and replacement follow-ups and second owner's detailed symptoms.
The first owner received a replacement and initially reported success, but later described intermittent black screens and freezing again. They relay a shop's finding of internal corrosion in the original unit; that is not independent proof of a manufacturing fault or evidence that water caused the second owner's symptoms. Likewise, happening after an update does not establish that firmware caused the fault. The second owner's final service outcome is unknown.
Shutdowns and an empty-battery indication during motorcycle use
A handlebar-mounted Osmo 360 owner reports recording stopping and an empty-battery symbol despite charged batteries, with the charge indication later returning. Another owner explicitly using an Osmo 360 on a rear-mounted selfie stick describes the same shutdown and battery symbol, followed by a 60% reading when connected to a charger. Sources: motorcycle report and later updates and second owner's battery-indication account.
The first owner reports improvement after changing mounting arrangements, and later says a battery-compartment modification stopped the issue. These are owner observations, not a verified diagnosis of loose contacts or an approved repair. We do not recommend adding improvised material inside the battery compartment. This symptom is distinct from confirmed overheating and from a separate card-speed warning in the discussion. The second owner's final resolution is not established.
Evidence limits and practical checks
Some reports omit firmware, app versions or exact shooting conditions. A recurring symptom can have several causes, and a complaint thread may remain online after an issue improves. We have not established a model-wide storage-corruption, water-ingress or repair-pricing problem from the evidence reviewed.
For example, an alarming lens-repair quote should not be treated as the final bill: the owner of this repair thread eventually reported paying €50 for a refurbished replacement, receiving it within seven days and being satisfied with DJI's service. That is one historical outcome, not a current price promise.
Before an important shoot, test your actual recording mode and complete an export on your intended phone or computer. Keep original files and a record of the camera firmware, editing-app version, mount and error messages when seeking support. An editing failure is not automatically a damaged recording, and a warm camera is not automatically a recording shutdown.
