Legacy camera guide · High-resolution spherical stills

Panono is an unusual proposition for property photographers: a ball-shaped multi-camera system whose appeal is detailed spherical photography. For a business considering a used unit, the decisive question is whether fresh captures can reliably become downloadable, client-ready panoramas.

**Research disclosure:** This is a source-based guide, not a GoThru hands-on test. Historical specifications and reviewer experiences are dated below. We have not tested a Panono, its current cloud service or the independent desktop tools discussed here.

## Who should consider a Panono?

Our assessment is conditional: Panono is worth investigating for an existing owner or a specialist willing to validate a legacy processing workflow. We would not make it the foundation of a new, deadline-driven property service on the strength of an online listing and a resolution number alone.

A working shutter is only the beginning. Ask for a new indoor capture, the original source file and the final stitched export. Process that source on the equipment you will actually use. If a seller can show only previously hosted panoramas, the demonstration has not established that you can complete a new job.

## The documented hardware

It describes simultaneous capture followed by cloud stitching and downloadable panoramas. Its old mobile operating-system requirements do not establish compatibility with a phone purchased today.

## Why 108 MP and a 16K export are different descriptions

A capture specification and a stitched output grid are not interchangeable measurements. The final projection combines overlapping views and resamples them onto a rectangular image. More output pixels do not, by themselves, prove more resolved detail, better window exposure or cleaner edges.

[JumpCut Pictures' May 2016 hands-on comparison](https://www.jumpcutpictures.com/review-of-two-360-degree-cameras/?ref=gothru.co) reports 16384 × 8192 output and a three-exposure HDR sequence across the array. The reviewer also found processing introduced a substantial delay. These observations describe that historical test, not today's turnaround time.

## HDR means more source images, not more delivered scenes

### Source-image count for the workflow described in the 2016 review

Ordinary capture — **36 source images**

Three-exposure HDR capture — **108 source images**

Zero-baseline chart: 36 cameras × one exposure versus 36 × three exposures, as reported by JumpCut Pictures above. Both represent one panorama position. This is a workflow-count comparison, not a measured dynamic-range or processing-speed benchmark.

For job planning, count accepted panoramas separately from component images. Preserve complete source captures and allow time for processing and inspection. A room is not finished simply because its files have transferred successfully.

## Cloud history and a documented local alternative

We could not verify current official cloud availability, pricing or account-transfer conditions. The former English homepage returned HTTP 404 during our 21 September 2026 check. That missing page alone does not prove that every Panono service has stopped operating.

There is also a newer, independent route to investigate. The developer of [Panono Rescue](https://github.com/ilmojensankari/Panono-rescue?ref=gothru.co) documents Mac-based camera control and downloading original UPF captures. The repository describes a closed-source application for macOS 14 or later, not an open-source camera firmware project.

The companion [Panono Stitcher](https://github.com/ilmojensankari/Panono-stitcher?ref=gothru.co) is presented as a way to process captures locally. These are third-party projects, not official Panono support. We have inspected their documentation, not installed, security-audited or tested the applications. Evaluate them on copies of non-sensitive sample files before depending on them for commissioned work.

There is an important HDR limitation in the Stitcher documentation: captures that change ISO, analog gain, aperture, camera geometry or color matrix between brackets are not supported. The developer also warns that some scenes can retain alignment or blending artifacts. Do not assume that every archived HDR capture will process successfully; test the actual capture sets you need.

**Orientation needs a deliberate check.** The same documentation describes JPEG export with panorama metadata, adjustable horizon/roll and a selectable image center. Its compass-heading field is not populated automatically from camera metadata. Our implication for a property tour: verify both a level horizon and the direction shown when a visitor enters each room. A manually assigned heading is not evidence of measured georeferencing accuracy.

Keep source files independently of any account or hosted viewer. For a construction client, check whether the proposed processing route is acceptable for sensitive site imagery before sending files outside the client's approved environment. Local processing may change that discussion, but a claim of local operation is not a substitute for reviewing the actual software and workflow.

## A later owner's experience adds an important caution

In his [2022 Panono travel review](https://the360ofdisney.com/2022/01/07/my-review-of-the-panono-360-ball-camera/?ref=gothru.co), Erik S praised stitching in his successful images but reported inconsistent results, glare, motion ghosts and disappointing night photographs. Repeated phone-connection problems eventually led him to stop using the camera during the trip.

This is one owner's experience with a used unit and an earlier software setup, not a controlled comparison of every Panono. Its practical lesson is to test connection and processing reliability repeatedly, rather than assuming one successful sample proves a dependable system. The review's historical service fee should not be treated as a current price.

## A useful acceptance test for real-estate photography

1. **Start with a bright-window interior.** Include dark furnishings, a doorway and fine detail. Capture ordinary and HDR versions where your working setup supports them.
2. **Inspect the complete sphere.** Examine ceiling lines, furniture boundaries, window frames and the floor beneath the support—not just the initial view.
3. **Check nearby objects.** Repeat a viewpoint with more clearance around the camera and compare seams. Do not infer a universal minimum distance from one room.
4. **Measure repeatability.** Power down, reconnect and capture another scene. Record failures as well as successful exports.
5. **Complete delivery.** Upload a processed sample to your intended tour platform and check navigation, orientation, mobile viewing and any platform resizing.

This is our proposed evaluation procedure, not a test we have performed. It separates camera output, processing reliability and hosting behavior so that one good-looking thumbnail does not conceal a problem elsewhere in the workflow.

[GoThru](https://gothru.co/?ref=gothru.co) operates this publication. We have not completed a Panono-specific upload test. A downloadable equirectangular image is a useful starting point, but we do not claim verified integration with every tour service.

## Construction-site virtual tours: favor repeatable, protected capture

For progress documentation, use a [stable support and named capture positions](https://gothru.co/360-cameras/construction-site-virtual-tours/) with dates and approximate camera heights. Record inaccessible rooms and changed viewpoints. Avoid presenting an apparent before-and-after comparison as exact alignment when the camera position has moved.

The spherical body's many exposed viewing directions make lens inspection part of the proposed checklist. Check for dirt, damage and support obstruction before starting a sequence. This guide establishes no dust, water or hazardous-location certification; do not assume suitability for an active site from the camera's shape or product photographs.

Use overview panoramas to provide context and separate detail photographs for specific items. A high-resolution spherical photograph is not automatically a measured survey, a BIM-aligned record or proof that concealed work meets a specification. For client jobs, choose controlled tripod capture rather than throwing the camera.

The linked alternatives are not claimed to match Panono's output detail. They offer different approaches to obtaining a deliverable. A meaningful comparison uses the same difficult room and intended viewing scale; this guide does not supply a measured head-to-head result.

For destination storytelling, consider the entire kit and the time between capture and a shareable image. Test packing, connection and file retrieval before departure. A legacy system that works at a desk may still be inconvenient when a scene is changing and connectivity is limited.

Owner-operated [Panorra](https://panorra.com/?ref=gothru.co) is a related destination-storytelling outlet; its mention is not a claim that we have tested Panono compatibility. Preserve a full-resolution master separately from versions prepared for any sharing platform.

The purchase decision comes back to evidence: buy only when the exact unit, processing route and exported samples satisfy your requirements. Existing owners may find renewed value in investigating local tools, but a new business should compare the complete cost of accepted, delivered scenes—not just the used-camera price.
