# Insta360 X4 vs QooCam 3: Specs, Video and RAW Workflows

X4 offers ordinary 8K30 recording and a broader high-frame-rate video range. The standard QooCam 3 remains a different still-workflow option, with DNG8, AEB and a larger sensor-format label. An 8K video advantage does not automatically settle which camera should photograph a difficult interior.

## Separate the video upgrade from the still-photo decision

**Shortlist X4 when a required deliverable needs ordinary 8K30, 5.7K60 or its flat-video options.** Those are concrete capture differences. Test the desired crop and delivery size, because a sphere's full raster is not retained in a narrow forward-facing view.

**Shortlist QooCam 3 when its specific RAW processing route fits the team's work.** A larger sensor-format label and f/1.6 aperture are reasons to inspect real processed samples, not proof of a universal interior-quality win. Do not replace a working still kit solely to obtain a video feature the job does not use.

Compare complete-kit quotes and a complete pilot job. Capture, offload, processing, seam cleanup and hosting all contribute to the cost of an accepted panorama.

### Maximum listed panorama width

X4 — **11,904 pixels**

QooCam 3 — **11,136 pixels**

Zero-baseline specification chart. X4's largest listed panorama is about 6.9% wider, not 6.9% sharper. These are not matched AEB or developed-RAW outputs.

Inspect complete exports at equal viewing size. Fine texture, highlight edges, noise and stitching can each limit a panorama independently of file dimensions. Keep original-resolution masters separate from resized web copies.

## X4 AEB and QooCam DNG8 should not share one score

The [model-specific X4 AEB instructions](https://onlinemanual.insta360.com/x4air/en-us/operating-tutorials/capture-preview/shooting-parameters/aeb?ref=gothru.co) require 18 MP HDR Photo and PureShot + RAW. Do not combine the ordinary 72 MP specification and the AEB label into a maximum-resolution bracket claim.

Kandao's [September 2023 launch release](https://prtimes.jp/main/html/rd/p/000000040.000043116.html?ref=gothru.co) describes eight DNG8 captures processed in Raw+. That is a documented intended route, not our test of current software or measured quality improvement. Its current technical page lists DNG8, AEB and TimeFusion separately; this comparison does not establish a full count, timing and format matrix.

The [QooCam FAQ](https://www.kandaovr.com/support/qoocam-3?ref=gothru.co) says HDR photography is unsupported, despite separately documented AEB. Capturing an exposure bracket and receiving an automatically merged HDR sphere are different capabilities. Keep that distinction explicit when planning a handoff to an editor.

Use bright windows, dark fabric and moving curtains in the pilot scene. A repeated-frame merge and varying-exposure bracket can fail differently when subjects move. Time development, stitching and cleanup as well as capture, and retain the complete source set until a separate backup is checked.

Sources: shooting and technical tables plus QooCam FAQ above. QooCam's exact spherical 4K raster is not established here; X4 lists 3840 × 1920\. X4's 5.7K+ retains the 5760 × 2880 raster, but equal dimensions do not establish identical processing. A bitrate ceiling is not a quality percentage.

QooCam's five-minute file splitting is described as continuous recording across segments, not a five-minute total-session limit. Test joining and exporting a sample sequence if longer recordings matter. Its FAQ also excludes live streaming and external microphones; do not infer Ultra audio capabilities for the standard model.

## Flat video and stabilization require their own test

X4 lists ordinary single-lens 3840 × 2160, 2720 × 1536 and 1920 × 1080 at 24/25/30/50/60 fps. QooCam lists square 2880 × 2880 capture up to 60 fps. A square source and a conventional 16:9 output are not directly equivalent resolution claims.

X4's separate FreeFrame and Me Mode entries do not extend every ordinary-video setting. The shared table does not list PureVideo or InstaFrame for X4\. Likewise, ordinary 8K30 is not proof of 8K Active HDR. Validate the exact intended mode instead of combining labels from different rows.

Specifically, X4 FreeFrame lists square 3840 × 3840 at 24/25/30 fps, or 2720 × 2720 and 1920 × 1920 at 24/25/30/48/50/60 fps. Me Mode lists 3840 × 2160 at 24/25/30 fps, with 2720 × 1536 and 1920 × 1080 at 50/60/100/120 fps. These are separate capture choices, not extra frame rates for ordinary 8K spheres. QooCam's standard-video list does not document equivalent FreeFrame or Me modes.

For sound, both manufacturers list 48 kHz, 16-bit AAC; Kandao specifies four-channel audio. X4's shooting table lists stereo, directional focus and wind-reduction modes. Matching the sample format does not establish equal wind handling or spatial rendering. Test speech and ambient sound in the intended recording mode, especially if an external microphone is part of the planned kit.

QooCam's FAQ describes stabilization through its app or QooCam Studio. Compare the finished walking clip at the same framing and playback size, not an unstabilized source against a processed export. Neither manufacturer feature list establishes a matched stabilization score.

X4's [timelapse guide](https://onlinemanual.insta360.com/x4/en-us/operating%5Ftutorials/capture-preview/shooting-mode/timelapse?ref=gothru.co) lists 11K, 8K and 5.7K playback at 30 fps, with resolution-dependent intervals drawn from 0.5, 1, 2, 5, 10, 30, 60 and 120 seconds. Its high-resolution FAQ is inconsistent about the one-second boundary, so confirm that setting on the installed firmware. A 30 fps finished timelapse is not thirty newly captured panoramas each second. QooCam lists timelapse and interval photography, but this review does not establish every supported interval/output combination.

This table follows the current labelled body-only figure and does not calculate a carrying-weight advantage. Confirm the complete kit on a scale if that constraint matters.

X4 quotes around 75 minutes at 8K30 or 135 at 5.7K30 under its laboratory method; QooCam quotes about 58 minutes under its own conditions. These are not matched tests or promised HDR room counts. Rehearse screen use, remote control, processing and offload as one working session.

X4's hardware table specifies approximately 38 minutes to 80% and 55 minutes to full charge at 9 V/2 A, powered off at 25°C using the stated compatible charger. Those conditions matter; charging during operation is not the same test. QooCam's technical sheet specifies 5 V/2 A and a 5–40°C charging range, distinct from its wider operating range.

QooCam's FAQ specifies a standard 1/4-inch tripod socket. The X4 hardware table also lists a 1/4-inch mounting point; check any quick-release accessory for the exact model before purchase. A compatible thread alone does not establish that a pole, adapter or support will remain hidden in the stitched panorama.

Neither camera's recording media is an independent backup. Test the exact card, copy and verify originals, and keep a second copy before clearing anything. Body protection also does not guarantee seamless underwater stitching or suitability for every construction hazard.

The [X4 storage guide](https://onlinemanual.insta360.com/x4/en-us/faq/compatibility/storage?ref=gothru.co) expressly excludes UHS-II/UHS-III cards; “faster” here refers to the supported speed class, not a different bus standard. Its approximate 8K30 storage figures are 1.5 GB per minute at high bitrate or 1 GB at standard bitrate. Reserve additional space for recording cache and export files rather than filling a card to its nominal capacity.

## Choose from a delivered sample job

The [X4 phone guide](https://onlinemanual.insta360.com/x4/en-us/faq/compatibility/phone?ref=gothru.co) lists iOS 13 or later with A12-class or newer hardware, and Android 10 or later with supported chipsets such as Snapdragon 855 or newer. Installation requires a 64-bit system; the guide excludes HarmonyOS NEXT and SDM765 5G devices. Check the exact device and current app-store requirements: successful remote control does not prove smooth full-resolution editing. Insta360 Studio is a desktop alternative, not a guarantee that an arbitrary computer can process 8K efficiently.

Kandao's support page provides Raw+ for Windows and macOS and describes combining a RAW burst into one DNG for further development. Its QooCam Studio FAQ says exports above 4K need MP4/H.265 for GPU acceleration, with a compatible encoder. That is an export requirement, not a change to the standard camera's H.264 recording codec. Check the chosen computer against the linked Studio recommendations and complete a full-resolution export before buying around an assumed processing speed.

**Property:** compare X4's supported 18 MP AEB route with the QooCam processing route actually proposed for the job. Inspect near furniture and doorframes as well as windows. QooCam's FAQ recommends 1.5 m stitching clearance; X4's 0.6 m focus specification is not an equivalent seam-clearance promise.

**Construction:** X4's broader video range may help promotional clips, but the progress record still needs consistent viewpoints, dates and camera height. Record changes in camera or processing so rendering changes are not mistaken for site changes. Neither is presented as survey-grade equipment. **Travel:** test the complete editing device and offload route before departure. Preserve immersive destination masters separately from flat crops for owner-operated [Panorra](https://panorra.com/?ref=gothru.co). No direct camera integration is claimed.
