Aerial panorama guide · Real estate and construction

For a business virtual tour, the Avata 360's most relevant feature is not a dramatic flight maneuver. It is the ability to add an explorable exterior panorama that explains a property's setting. The buying decision turns on the still-photo output, stitching workload and usefulness of that viewpoint.

## Our assessment: an exterior addition, not an interior replacement

Consider this camera when clients regularly need to understand the relationship between buildings, access routes and surrounding land. A well-labeled aerial scene can introduce a large property before the visitor moves into ground-level photographs. It should answer a question about the site, rather than simply show that a drone was available.

We would not choose it as the first camera for a service built around room-by-room real-estate tours. A tripod-based interior workflow remains a separate requirement. Nor should the name Avata lead a buyer to assume that advice or accessories for another Avata model apply: verify this exact model and configuration.

Source: [DJI Avata 360 specifications](https://www.dji.com/uk/avata-360/specs?ref=gothru.co). DJI lists single-shot photography. Do not infer automatic exposure bracketing from another DJI camera's features. DNG dimensions do not mean the camera supplies a finished stitched RAW panorama; see the processing section below. DJI may redirect these pages according to your region; we verified the UK pages with the United Kingdom region selected.

## 120 MP versus 30 MP: what the dimensions actually show

### JPEG panorama width, starting from zero

120 MP mode — **15,520 pixels**

30 MP mode — **7,776 pixels**

Calculated from DJI's JPEG dimensions: approximately 2× the horizontal samples and 3.98× the total pixels. This describes file size in pixels, not four times the visible detail.

Our proposed test is to export both modes and compare the same part of the sphere at the same field of view. Look at roof edges, trees and distant structures, then inspect the seam and the ground beneath the aircraft. Do not compare a whole-sphere thumbnail with a tightly zoomed crop and call the difference camera quality.

For delivery, keep the original master and test any resized version inside the actual tour. A platform's processing, the viewer's zoom and the chosen compression all affect the result a customer sees. The higher-resolution setting is worth using only when its benefit survives that chain.

## JPEG and RAW are different production paths

[DJI's current Avata 360 FAQ](https://www.dji.com/uk/avata-360/faq?ref=gothru.co) directs RAW-photo users to third-party professional software and describes DJI Studio RAW-360-photo editing as future support. That wording is not confirmation that a current Studio installation can complete this workflow. It also confirms Pro photo controls; single-lens mode is video-only, so it is not an alternative still-photo capture mode.

In [Iain Anderson's first-hand review](https://www.provideocoalition.com/review-dji-avata-360/?ref=gothru.co), JPEGs were stitched in-camera, whereas RAW capture produced two separate DNGs requiring post-production stitching. He provides a downloadable camera JPEG through his article. That is a useful reference to inspect, but not permission for this publication to republish his photograph.

The software developer's [PanoVolo 1.12.0 release announcement](https://www.panovolo.com/2026/08/06/panovolo-1-12-0-released-with-dji-avata-360-support/?ref=gothru.co) documents Avata 360 DNG stitching with DNG, TIFF or JPEG output. Its [1.12.1 update](https://www.panovolo.com/2026/09/17/panovolo-1-12-1-released-with-dji-osmo-360-ii-support/?ref=gothru.co) explicitly adds 30 MP support alongside 120 MP. These are developer support statements, not a GoThru end-to-end test.

Our practical recommendation is to trial both paths before selling the service. Time a straightforward JPEG delivery and a RAW-based delivery from the same kind of assignment. Evaluate whether the extra editing and stitching produce a visible improvement for the client. RAW is not automatically the more profitable workflow, and its editing flexibility does not guarantee that an incorrectly exposed scene can be repaired.

### A documented third-party route from paired DNGs to a sphere

The [developer's Avata release notes](https://www.panovolo.com/2026/08/06/panovolo-1-12-0-released-with-dji-avata-360-support/?ref=gothru.co) specify importing the matching `UP` and `DOWN` images by drag-and-drop or *File > Select images*. They document batch processing, orientation adjustments and output to linear DNG, 16-bit TIFF or JPEG. Preserve the pair from each capture; an isolated lens file is not the complete sphere.

__Documented PanoVolo controls and our delivery checkpoints; not an in-house software test__
| Stage | Control or choice | Why it matters for a business tour |
| ----------- | ---------------------------------------------------------- | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Projection | Select *Edit > Spherical*; disable automatic cropping. | Keep the complete viewing sphere rather than a cropped or reframed image. |
| Orientation | Use horizon straightening and inspect the result. | Check building verticals and horizon; an automatic setting does not prove correct alignment. |
| Review | Open *View > 3D Sphere*. | Inspect the seam, roof edges, sun-facing areas and nadir interactively before delivery. |
| Save | Keep a master separately from any downscaled sharing JPEG. | Record final pixel dimensions and retain an editable version for future client revisions. |

These projection and review controls come from PanoVolo's [general spherical-panorama guide](https://www.panovolo.com/howto-spherical/?ref=gothru.co), not an Avata-specific capture tutorial. Its sky-filling advice addresses gaps left by other drone capture systems; do not automatically apply it to this dual-fisheye camera or present generated sky as captured site evidence.

The [developer's sharing guide](https://www.panovolo.com/how-to-view-and-share-360-panoramas/?ref=gothru.co) describes an adjustable downscaled-JPEG preset with an 8000 × 4000 default and says the software writes spherical metadata. That preset is a delivery choice, not the maximum Avata capture resolution or a universal tour-platform requirement. Recheck dimensions and spherical recognition after any subsequent image editor or upload service processes the file.

1. **Retain the capture set.** Keep both RAW source files together, with the project and scene identifier. Preserve originals separately from edits.
2. **Record software and settings.** Note the application version, chosen projection and output format so a later revision can be reproduced.
3. **Inspect the stitched sphere.** Check exposure transitions, doubled objects, horizon and nadir in a panoramic viewer.
4. **Create the delivery copy.** Confirm the hosting platform's accepted format and dimensions. Keep a higher-quality master for future use.
5. **Verify the hosted scene.** Check navigation, default view, privacy edits and mobile performance before sharing with a client.

## Stitching and wind: what the reviews add

[Hugh Hou's May 2026 comparison](https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/bigger-sensor-doesnt-always-mean-better-image-testing-hugh-hou-v3tte?ref=gothru.co) favored the Avata 360 over the Antigravity A1 for close-distance stitching while hovering. He also observed flare in direct sun and found the A1 steadier in his windy hovering comparison. Those are observations from his specific video tests, not proof of superior still photos in every situation.

Anderson similarly reported that nearby objects and abrupt changes in flight direction could expose stitching artifacts. His review also distinguishes a reframed flat video from a full spherical export. For a virtual-tour commission, make sure the client receives the latter type of viewing experience where intended, rather than assuming an attractive conventional clip is an equivalent deliverable.

Our conclusion is deliberately narrower than a universal camera ranking: evaluate the difficult directions of your own panorama. Inspect sun-facing areas and structural edges rather than choosing only the most flattering crop. A creator's test can identify what to examine, but cannot certify a different capture session.

[Hugh Hou's accompanying Avata 360 and A1 video](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ow85ZsuTiLc&ref=gothru.co) is linked from his written comparison. This guide's attributed findings come from the written source, not an independently inspected video transcript.

## Real estate and business tours

For the complementary interior kit, see our [Ricoh Theta Z1 guide](https://gothru.co/360-cameras/ricoh-theta-z1/) for a still-focused workflow, [Insta360 X4 guide](https://gothru.co/360-cameras/insta360-x4/) for mixed photo/video work, and [QooCam 3 guide](https://gothru.co/360-cameras/kandao-qoocam-3/) for RAW-merging considerations. These are different production roles, not cameras we have tested together as an integrated system.

Use the aerial scene as a clearly identified overview. Label the relevant building and connect the scene to an entrance photographed from the ground. Do not imply that an aerial-to-interior transition represents a continuous walking path. For multi-building properties, confirm names and access points with the client before publishing.

For hospitality, a panorama may explain gardens, courtyards or the relationship to nearby attractions. For industrial premises, it may orient a remote stakeholder before a guided interior sequence. In either case, ask whether the new scene communicates information that the existing tour lacks.

This is not our recommendation for solving difficult indoor window exposure. That problem deserves an interior capture test and appropriate equipment. The aerial camera should earn its place through exterior context, not be stretched into every part of the assignment.

## Construction-site virtual tours and progress records

Our [construction-site virtual-tour workflow](https://gothru.co/360-cameras/construction-site-virtual-tours/) explains how to combine overview scenes with room-level documentation. Treat Avata 360 aerial coverage as one part of that record, not a replacement for interior viewpoints or detail photographs.

Plan repeatable overview scenes with the site team, but let safe and permitted operations determine what is captured on each visit. Record date, scene identifier, intended coverage and any missed area. If the position changes, explain that in the record so a viewer does not confuse a viewpoint change with construction progress.

Pair the overview with ground-level panoramas and separate detail photographs. Do not infer dimensions, compliance, hidden conditions or defect status from a spherical visual record. A marketing or progress tour is not automatically survey-grade documentation, and this guide establishes no BIM or measurement integration.

Review the entire sphere for sensitive operations and neighboring properties before distribution. Agree whether a scene belongs in a public marketing tour or a restricted stakeholder record. Aircraft protection and sensing features do not justify flights close to people or through scaffolding; this guide does not recommend those operations.

## Travel use, operating costs and the buying decision

DJI's FAQ documents phone transfer through QuickTransfer and computer copying over a data cable without powering on the aircraft. File copying is separate from stitching or making a tour-ready export. Back up the complete capture set before editing.

For site and travel handling, the same FAQ says the aircraft is not waterproof and does not support handheld shooting. Protect the lenses in storage with the locked gimbal and its cover, checking the cover for grit first. DJI offers replaceable front lenses through its replacement kit. Omnidirectional sensing applies only in 360 mode, on discernibly textured surfaces at illumination of at least 1 lux; single-lens mode has forward sensing only. Those conditions are not a guarantee of safe passage around site obstacles.

For travel photography, the strongest editorial use is to establish a destination's geography before moving into ground-level stories. Owner-operated [Panorra](https://panorra.com/?ref=gothru.co) offers a related panoramic storytelling context; no Avata-specific integration is claimed here.

Budget beyond the aircraft: compatible controls, charging, spare power, protective transport, storage, editing time and any required training or permissions. Confirm local flight rules and site access for each assignment. Do not turn an advertised flight duration into a promised number of billable scenes.

[GoThru](https://gothru.co/?ref=gothru.co) operates this publication. We have not completed an Avata 360 upload/export test. Before purchase, process a representative still through your planned tour platform and check the result with the intended client device. That test matters more than a specification-sheet win.

Research checked 21 September 2026\. The third-party workflow above is documented by its developer; output quality, processing speed and a complete GoThru upload have not been tested by this publication.
